Some reassembly required

As I was waiting on line with my wife for the Avengers premiere this past Friday, I was struck by a few things. One, that I was near the back of the line after showing up an hour early before the show (seriously?). Two, there are still fanboys out there who really need to be introduced to some deodorant. And three, this line I was on was not made up entirely of the aforementioned stereotypical fanboys. There was actually a diverse group of people waiting to see this movie.

Online Channels + Nonprofit Leaders with something to say = Thought leadership that moves the needle

Most executive directors, founders, and other nonprofit-sector leaders have something big to say; it’s why they do this work in the first place. They’re activists, radicals, and change-agents; ‘thought leaders’ by default.

Say it their way

Every time I see this line of medical supplies in a pharmacy, it makes me think about the power of audience-centric communications.

Help—I have a headache

A checklist for starting your next campaign

So you’re a nonprofit professional. And you’ve heard over and over that instead of sending one-off emails or mail appeals—you should be organizing your communications into campaigns, which are basically a series of messages that tell a cohesive story.

What we learned at NTEN's 2012 Nonprofit Technology Conference

Last week's Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) was a whirlwind of new ideas, connections, and inspiration. I had the opportunity to present at a few workshops, reconnect with clients, partners, and old friends, make new friends, and get re-energized by the amazing work and people that comprise the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) community. In an attempt to capture some of what I learned--and compile takeaways from others, I've put together this recap. It's a bit long, but I promise you'll find some new resources and ideas... and at least one thing that will make you smile.

Unsubscribe IRL

I have a favorite new app. It’s called PaperKarma, and it’s like a big fat unsubscribe button for paper junk mail.
